 1. Longan is a tropical fruit which is native to South and Southeast Asia. Its scientific name is Dimocarpus Longan, and it is also known as ‘Dragon’s Eye’ due to its round shape and dark brown colour with a distinct white centre, resembling an eyeball when the fruit is peeled.

 2. Longan is a member of the soapberry family, and is related to lychee and rambutan. It is highly valued in Chinese and Southeast Asian culture for its sweet and succulent taste. The fruit has a thin, light brown peel which is easily broken away to reveal a white, juicy flesh with a single large, black seed in the center.

 3. Longan is a popular ingredient in many dishes and desserts in Southeast Asian cooking, such as sweet soup, sweet and sour soup, and even in ice cream. It is also used to make preserves, jams, and syrups. It is believed to have medicinal properties and is used to treat digestive issues, insomnia, and even improve skin complexion.

 4. Longan is also packed with essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and manganese. It is low in calories and fat-free, making it a great snack for those watching their weight.

 5. Longan is a popular health food and is used to make tea and other health drinks. It is also used in herbal medicines and supplements due to its high levels of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. The nut of the longan is also highly prized and is used to make oils and nut butters.
